Visiting Professor: Prof. Jeffrey Dirk Wilson from the Catholic University of America

Prof. Jeffrey Dirk Willson from the Catholic University of America will be giving two monographic lectures at our Faculty during the Summer Semester (23-24)

  1. "Aristotle's Metaphysics" - 2 ECTS, intensive course that will be completed between the beginning of the semester and Easter (in person). 
  2.  "A Catholic Epistemology in Newman's Grammar of Assent" also 2 ECTS. The course will start in person, from April to June. It will only be available online

The course is intended for MA-level students and Erasmus students, but all the other interested students may also join!

Professor Wilson's principal academic interests are classical metaphysics, ancient Greek philosophy, and political thought - all with an emphasis on the philosophical reception of Homer. He is also interested in the philosophical thought of St. John Henry Cardinal Newman. His personal commitments are those of a Neoplatonic Thomist. Before turning to the philosophical life, he was a minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA) (1979-2007). He also served as President of the County Council of Harford County, Maryland (1990-1994). He taught at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland (2007-2009) before joining the faculty of The Catholic University of America, where he currently holds the rank of research associate professor. He also served as non- non-resident professor at Instituto de Filosofía Edith Stein (Granada) (2021-2023). Prof. Wilson holds degrees from Bowdoin College (Maine), Union Theological Seminary (New York), Oxford University, and The Catholic University of America. In addition, he has studied at Hamburg University, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Paris (X) at Nanterre. Dr. Wilson was received into full communion with the Catholic Church in 2007. He has been a secular oblate of Pluscarden Abbey (Scotland) since 2001.
