Rev. dr. hab. Marek Urban is a Redemptorist priest, the head of the Department of the History of Modern and Contemporary Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of UPJPII in Krakow, and the author or co-author of 10 books and several dozen articles on the history of philosophy, the philosophy of German idealism, and Christian and Jewish thought. His books include "Hans Urs von Balthasar on German idealism", "Myśl Christian philosophical areflexia", and "Das Problem einerm Philosophie der Geschichte' in Jacob Burckhardts "WeltgeschichtlichenBetrach-tungen", and "Hans Urs von Balthasar: Selected Writings, vol. 1: Philosophical Writings".


Rev. dr. Urban's interests and philosophical research include:

  • issues related to the role of the history of philosophy in the development of modern thought,
  • the philosophy of culture and religion, metaphysics,
  • philosophy of man, aesthetics,
  • Jewish philosophy

He teaches the history of modern and contemporary philosophy, as well as German idealism. He is a promoter of doctorates and over 30 master's degrees. Currently, Rev. dr. Urban is the editor-in-chief of the scientific journal "Redemptorist Studies". He is a member of the Program Council of the journal "Homo Dei", and a nominated member of the Science Committee of the Polish Episcopate Conference. Rev. dr. Urban has led and runs research projects and grants, and he has participated in many projects popularizing philosophical and linguistic thought among high-school and post-secondary students.
