Recruitment for the third edition of Solidarity Summer School 15–29.05.2025

The Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow and the International Center for the Study of the Phenomenon of Solidarność invite to participate in the third edition of the Solidarity Summer School – an online summer school, which will take place from June 30 to July 4, 2025.

The topic will be, as in previous editions, the globalization of the Polish experience of solidarity. Lectures will be given by specialists from Poland and abroad:
  • Prof. Krzysztof Brzechczyn,
  • Prof. Rocco Buttiglione,
  • Prof. Joachim Wiemeyer,
  • Prof. Stefano Zamagni,
  • Rev. Prof. Władysław Zuziak.
The Summer School will cover topics such as:
  • the history of the idea of ​​solidarity against the background of the economic transformations of the 19th and 20th centuries;
  • the ethics of solidarity in Poland and its historical development in the perspective of John Paul II and Józef Tischner;
  • solidarity in Europe;
  • solidarity as a response to problems resulting from the globalization of the economy and socio-cultural life;
  • the possibility of deepening and developing the idea of ​​solidarity;
  • applying the Polish experience of solidarity to global problems.

Classes of the summer school will be held from 2–8 PM Polish time to allow participants from both Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia to participate. We want the school to be a place for participants from different countries, cultures and religions to exchange their thoughts, just like in previous editions.

Registration will open on 15.05.2025 and will last until 29.05.2025 or until the limit of places is filled. Students and PhD students who speak English can participate in the school. The cost of participation in the school is PLN 2,000. Graduates of the school will receive a certificate confirming the achieved learning outcomes.

The first and second edition of the Summer School - Solidarity Summer School: Globalisation of Polish experience of "Solidarność" was co-financed by the European Social Fund under the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development, non-competitive project entitled "Support for the institutional capacity of Polish universities by creating and implementing international study programmes" (Measure: 3.3 Internationalisation of Polish higher education), specified in the application for funding for the project no. POWR.03.03.00-00-PN16/18.
